Kolkatans are better known for their taste and choice for recipe. Although Bengali dishes are very popular, yet preparations of various countries and places in India have grown popular with the cosmopolitan characteristics of the city. In this cuisine section, we are trying to figure out some very special and delicious menu that could be easily prepared at home. The recipe has been brought in here from different sources and we thank them for their cooperation in enlighten us with the special dishes.

Gokul Pithe (Sweet Pie)
The traditional Pithe (Sweet pie) that was very popular in our good old days.

Ingredients
   
Flour 200 grams
Sugar 400 grams
Baking Soda 1/2 tea spoon
White Oil 250 grams
Coconut 1 small size
Milk 200 ml
Cardamom (Elaichi) 2 Nos


Preparation

Step 1 - Mix flour, milk, and 50 grams of white oil well.

Step 2 - Grate coconut.

Step 3 - Mix grated coconut with 75 grams of sugar.

Step 4 - Put the coconut mix in a hot plate / Kadaai on oven and stir till the
             mixture becomes brown. Crush Cardamom and mix with it. Remove
             the kadai from the oven and cool it.

Step 5 - Take the flour mix and prepare them in medium size luchi (round flat
             shape).

Step 6 - Put reasonable quantity of coconut mix on each luchi and cover in the
             shape as shown in the picture above.

Step 7 - Put the remaining white oil in the kadaai and put it on the oven.

Step 8 - Once the oil is hot, fry the luchis till they get deep brown color

Step 9 - Take the remaining quantity of sugar and add reasonable water in it.

Step 10 - Put the sugar-water mix in the Kadaai and put the kadaai on the oven.
               Stir it till the sugar solution becomes a bit sticky. Take care that it does
               not become caramel. Remove the Kadai from the oven.

Step 11 - Put the fried luchis in the sugar solution and keep it for 30 minutes.

Your Gokul Pithe is ready to serve now. The item should be taken within 24 hours and be kept in a cool and dry place.
