Tolly Film Review - Iti Sreekanto

'….Touring is one subject, but more cumbersome is to narrate the touring….' - this was addressed by Sreekanto in the Upanyas of Sarat Chandra. In fact since the character of Sreekanto was depicted by Sarat Chandra, the middle and class middle aged male folks had the fascination of behaving like Sreekanto - a man who had wheels fitted in his feet, who never preferred to stay at one place, who preferred to have the spontaneous service of females and over all who was recognized by all as a special and typical character. Not only that, as we talk about Sreekanto, we recollect the names like Rajlakhsmi and Kamallata. These trio will remain long in the memory of book lovers.

It was the great actor Uttam Kumar who dared to play the roll of Sreekanto in the celluloid. He had won over the elderly persons for his model role of Sreekanto in the movie. After about four decades, veteran Film Director Anjan Das chose to opt for Sreekanto in the second spell at the Tollywood regime. Anjan chose Adil Hossain as Sreekanto. Soha Ali Khan (daughter of Sharmila Tagore) and Reema Sen acted as Rajlaksmi and Kamallata.

The acting of the key players in the movie has certainly been praise worthy. Camera of Sirsha Roy played pivotal role in the filming. Above all, Anjan Das has taken the story to a new dimension in the movie. The audience has got a different taste and experience from the movie during the time when films are full of dance, sex and violence. The movie has begun with sensational praise of the audience.

Let's not discuss about the story in details, else the enthusiastic cine lovers will loose charm of enjoying the old wine in new bottle. Yet, one major point could be unfolded that the director could not make it clear as to why Sreekanto had more attachment towards Kamallata than Rajlakhsmi who was ready to sacrifice all for Sreekanto. After all it is to be seen, how long the movie attract the cine charmers and enjoy the favour of the audience.
