Swami Vivekananda, the great soul and worthy son of India is ever remembered all over the world. Vivekananda, popularly known as Swamiji was the able disciple of Rama Krishna Paramahansa Dev.

Swamiji was born in 1863 in the Dutta Family of Simla a place in North Kolkata. His nick name was Bile. His full name was Narendra Nath Dutta. He was the son of renowned law practitioner Biswa Nath Dutta. Since his childhood, he was fearless and straight forward by nature. Till his last day, he advised all to be fearless and determined to achieve desired goal. His did his schooling from Scottish Church School in Kolkata and graduated from Ravensah College at Cuttack in Orissa. He was heterodox by nature since his childhood but his philosophy and ideology changed as he came in contact with Rama krishna Paramahansa Deb at Dakhsineswar temple.

He was enlightened with knowledge by Paramanha Dev. After the death of Paramahansa Dev, Swamiji went round the country on foot to know the world and learn the culture of people whom he had never met before. Often he was on meditation right from the Himalayan range of mountains to the sea bed at the extreme southern flank of India. The rock in Kanyakumari where he mediated is known as Vivekananda rock located at the southern tip of main land in India. This is a place of historical importance and tourists pay visit there where the confluence of three seas - Indian Ocean in the front, Bay of Bengal at the left and Arabian Sea at the right is seen.

Swamiji was the first person to preach Hindu religion abroad. He made extensive tour to Europe and America. His most memorable speech in preach about Hinduism was made at Chicago in the year 1983 where he made the audience spell bound as he addressed them "Brothers and Sisters". He was the first to preach Hinduism and enlighten the world of the great value of Hindu religion with logic and evidence.

After he came back to India in 1896, he concentrated to form a metaphysical organization and named it as Rama Krishna Mission. Today the mission has thousand of branches all over the world dedicated to mankind in serving for the poor, preaching religion and stand by the needy and distressed one. At his instance, the famous Belur Math was established at the opposite bank of Dakhsinewar where his Guru Ramakrishna Deb used to reside. It will not be complete if we do not mention the name of Sister Nivedita who joined hand with Swamiji to serve for the mankind.

The saint and the great soul did not live long. His health deteriorated fast due to exhaustion and fatigue. He died at the age of 39 on 4th July, 1902. With his death an era ended. But we still recollect his saying " Where are you searching God? He is in your own self. If you server for mankind, you are serving for God.
